Animal Emergency

What will you do if your pet has an emergency?

There is no 911 emergency number for your pet. It is crucial, therefore, that you have a plan in place and information quickly accessible if your pet becomes ill or is injured in an accident or altercation with another animal.

HOW TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY PET PLAN

  1. Keep the name and contact information of the nearest animal hospital or emergency veterinary clinic on your refrigerator or other prominent place in your home.
  2. Make a list of different emergency scenarios that could occur and plan your reaction step by step. For example:
  • What would you do if your animal was poisoned?
  • What would you do if your dog was choking?
  • What would you do if your cat was hit by a car?

Walk through these scenarios so you and your family members are ready if your pet experiences that emergency.

  1. If you live in the Massillon, North Canton, or surrounding Ohio areas, write these numbers down and put them in a prominent place:
Stark County Emergency Veterinary Clinic (330) 452 – 5116
Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital (330) 666 – 2976
Green Animal Hospital Center (330) 896 – 4040

If your pet has an emergency:

  1. Call the animal hospital and let them know to expect you.
  2. Safely secure your pet in a pet carrier and take him or her to the animal hospital as soon as possible.

Note: Cats who are severely injured may act aggressively towards their pet parents.
You can gently place a towel or blanket over the cat’s head to prevent biting.
